I was walking to my job the other day and passing by a 711 there was a woman outside the store begging. She had gone before to my job to buy beer so the thought came “don’t give her money else she will spend it on beer.” I went inside the store and walking out she told me that she was not here to use the money for beer.” As if the woman read my mind I perceived the Lord was telling me “give to the poor” but I did not. Then reaching my job across the street there was another beggar who I knew but having my heart harden I went inside quickly.

Later at night still in my job, I went to a web page that gives random bible verses (www.bibledice.com) and before receiving a verse I began to doubt whether I should have given the woman money. When I checked the random verse it was Proverbs 28:27 “He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.

Then it hit me, “My God, it was the will of God to give her money!” God spoke to me first in my heart “give to the poor” (which was in accordance to the Word of God) but I ignored His voice and instead obeyed the voice of doubt, fear, and shame; to which the Lord rebuked and chastised me with a strong verse: “he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse”

Immediately I understood this was the Lord speaking to me so I quickly left my job to find the woman. I did not find her but instead I found the second beggar I met along the way which had gone to the 711 and there reaching him I gave him money.

Afterwards what happen next was incredible. Going back to my job I fell into a state of peace and had it all the way through until I left my job.

Later when I got home I began to think about how to have more of this amazing peace and at the same time I felt very bad because I had disobeyed the voice of God earlier and was afraid I would repeat the same mistake.

As I struggled trying to figure out what it meant to be a doer of the Word and how exactly to do His will, the Spirit of God gave me understanding through His Word. Verse after verse appeared in my mind teaching me how to do the Will of God and I believe this may also help you understand knowing God’s will; that you may also preform it and bear precious fruit of joy and peace.

This peace is the state or reward of doing God’s will

Matthew 12:30

“He that is not with me is against me”

If you are not for obeying the voice of God then you are against God for it is His will for you to obey Him in all things and in all situations.

Psalm 37:11

“The meek shall inherit the land”

The meek are those who are submissive, easy to yield to but to who are we to yield to? The Word of God, He it is to which we are to summit ourselves to. Jesus said “Ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you” (John 15:14)

Interestingly enough, Jesus mentions this same verse in the sermon on the mount “Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the land.” (Matthew 5:5) I believe here the word “land” is a cross reference to the Kingdom of God because those who inherit God’s Kingdom are those who obey the voice of God (Matthew 7:21)

If we say we believe in Jesus then let us show that our faith in Him works by doing the things He commands us to do; for faith without works is dead and as Christ hath said “If ye love me keep my commands” (John 14:15)

If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” 1 John 1:6-7

John 14:26

” But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you”

The Holy Spirit will, when we encounter any situation whether big or small, will remind us of His Word to preform it and by doing so we will do the will of God and not our own which will never lead us to peace.

This verse should give us an understanding that we should not fret over doing the will of God. The burden and yoke of God is easy and light and is only made hard when we obey the voice of the flesh or devil.

Jesus in His love for us will take on the job of giving us the exact verse to handle in any situation whether its temptation, making a judgement, or dealing with trials so that we don’t depend on ourselves to overcome; for we are called to depend on God and not ourselves. If we depend on our own wisdom, strength, or might then we shall never do the will of God which leads to the kingdom of God (Matthew 7:21-29)

Be prepared therefore, in prayer and watching for the voice of God so that when Jesus speaks you my be ready to hear and perform the verse He has given you.

James 1:22

“..be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves”

To do the word is to preform that which the Holy Spirit tells you to do at any given time that by hearing His commandments in your mind you may do it; that by doing what He tells you, you may be known of God.

God won’t expect you to do what you can’t do but He will expect you to do what you can do. You heard the voice of God when He reminded you of His word so now it’s your turn to do what He commanded; that you may either yield to Him and be a doer or be a hearer only.

Galatians 5:16

“..walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

To walk in the Spirit is to go on the day hearing and doing what the Spirit tells you just as Jesus when He walked the earth obeyed what the Father told Him.

Walking in the Spirit is not hard at all for Jesus said “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls: For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

When we fret and worry over what to do, how to do we are depending on ourselves and not on God so when God speaks to us to do His Word we shall do our own will; because our minds and hearts were occupied with thoughts of doing things our own way thus we are unable to bear any fruit.

He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful” (Matthew 13:22)

When we Walk in the Spirit we bear the fruit of the Spirit: Joy, Peace, Self-Control, Meekness – all of which are bared when we obey the voice of God.
This shall be the reward we reap and without good fruits there is no entering into the Kingdom of God (Matthew 7:19). When we remain or abide in Jesus who is the Vine we are able to bear good fruit but on our own we can not. What then is to abide in Christ? To do His Will. And how shall we know His Will? When we attend to His voice and do as He says.

Finally Brethren

There is no formula to live the Christian life nor is there a one time strategy to overcome temptation. Each day is a different day that requires us to hear and obey the voice of God which will be a new thing.

What the Father told Jesus to do when He was in the earth is exactly how our lives with Christ is. This is how we know the voice of God: when it is in accordance to scripture.
