Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
  – 2 Timothy 2:3-5

When you get saved by the power of God through Jesus Christ, be ready; for your name was enlisted for battle having a reward which is eternal life.

We are soldiers together in Christ fighting an invisible war. When the devil comes to visit you he will not show any mercy. Whatever means of seduction, torment, or feelings that he will use, it will be use to lure you into sin, to deceive the mind to give in. I want you to understand that when temptation comes it will continue to bother you until you give in; but God be thanked for His Spirit and His Word which conquer and prevail.

God’s Word is a Fountain of Life

Without it’s Truths there is nothing we can do against the forces of darkness that surround us in this present evil world. When you become a child of God you appear on Satan’s radar. Like a lion hunting for prey so will he try to hunt you. If the verses you read are not laid into your heart it will do you no good. Knowledge is one thing but taking out biblical verses in the moment of an attack is another. Christ taught how to effectually use the Word of God against Satan.

When Jesus was tempted He said “Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” (Matthew 4:10) Jesus did not have a Bible with Him to read this out loud to the devil. He said this from His heart and this is the key to prevail against the despairs and lies of hell. You see beloved, the devil likes us to think that his power of seduction and enticement are no way resistible, that you have to give in. This would be true if we were alone in this fight but the truth is we are not the ones fighting; The Word of God fights for us. “The Battle is the Lord’s battle” and not ours.

There is a famous verse that reads: “..Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.” (Zechariah 4:6) By the Spirit of the Lord do we prevail but how is this done? Jesus Himself is the word of God who through Him were all things made. In Him, that is, His Word, is found this source of Life; and what is this Life that is like a fountain? Simply put it that the word of God is living. Yes, it is well alive and active today. Look, even Satan himself could not resist a simple verse spoken against him. How much more will those powers of darkness who are under the rule of Satan be less resistant to the Word of God? This is why God commands us to hide His word within our hearts so that we may prevail against sin and the power of darkness (Psalm 119:9-11).

I would like to add that you would also have a good conduct in your regular walk of life; doing nothing which can hider you from receiving help from God. For how can God help you if you pray not, if you seek Him not and do not the things which please Him? Walk with the Spirit and you will not satisfy the desires of the flesh (Galatians 5:16). So we see then that there is a discipline required that every solider in Christ needs to follow if they want the back up of God’s power in their life against sin.

The Contrasting Power of the Word of God

It divides light and darkness, good and evil; tearing in half all spiritual strongholds in our lives no matter the difficulty. When you are tempted and you begin to quote verses from your heart that are opposite to the sin you are being tempted with, the power of sin begins to draw away for it cannot resist the Spirit of God which is moved by the Word of God. God’s Word does all the work for you, just believe what it says and life begins to flow within you. This sudden life and strength that comes upon you when you take it out to fight is the feedback of God. “Do not be afraid of them, for the LORD your God Himself will fight for you.” – Deuteronomy 3:22

“Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet, because thou didst rely on the Lord, he delivered them into thine hand. For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.” – 2 Chronicles 16:8,9

No power on earth or hell is able to resist Jesus Christ. He is God and in His hands are the keys of death and of hell (Revelation 1:18). The Word when drawn out of the heart will defeat any tempting force that has come to bother or torment you.

Confront the enemy

We tend to back down a bit when the enemy fires at us. No, we must look him in the eyes and rebuke him in the name of Jesus Christ. Whatever that is bothering you (oppression, fear, doubt, lust, etc) call it a ‘spirit’ (ex. the spirit of fear, the spirit of lust). Every sickness, disease or infirmity that Christ dealt with He called an unclean spirit (the spirit of blindness, the spirit of death, of dumbness). There is a demonic spirit behind every attack and oppression. These things attack our heart with all manner of thoughts, suggestions, and offers. These are the enemy’s rounds or flaming darts. You must deal with the attack but How?

Say the contrast of what the enemy speaks in your heart. If he says “you’re going to fall” you say “I will not fall but stand in Christ”. If he says “you’ve fallen too many times in the past , what makes you think you can stand today?” you say “I renounce this sin in Jesus’ name, and I have a God greater than my failures who can keep me from that which causes me to stumble.” Keep rebuking these foul spirits in name of Jesus Christ, always believing God is above the power of darkness.

If I agree with what the devil is telling me (which is lie) then I consent that his lie is true and that what he is saying will happen because I agreed with his lying statement instead of renouncing it with the truth of God’s word. For example, if the devil says “you shall be plagued”, you must say “no plague shall come near my dwelling” then no plague shall come near your dwelling.

Do not show fear. Remember what happen to Peter when he began to sink as he walked on water. And why did he sink? Because he began to look at the waves around him and not Jesus Christ. Put your faith in Jesus looking neither to your left or right else you will sink. The enemy’s attacks are a distraction to cut the flow of your faith form Christ, if you pay attention to them.

Destroying the enemy

Pull the stronghold down by continuing to remain in your position in Christ. He is our foundation. If we built upon the sand we will fall. We built upon Christ when we believe His Power is greater and His Word able to hurt the enemy.

I want you to know that you must be determined to win this fight. The fight is against sin meaning that you must be determined and already renounce the sin that is trying to master you, beloved. Do not think you can somehow get away with your sin by saying sorry to God only to later commit it again. True repentance says “I renounce this sin and have no desire to return to it again and I am willing to fight against it in the name of my God all the days of my life.” Yes, there will be times when we fall, however, The Spirit of God deals with us and helps us get the victory when we believe He is able to forgive us; and when we are determined to fight believing in His Name. No work on our part but to remain in our positions as faithful troops for God. By God’s grace are you delivered and when God gives you grace it teaches you to deny worldly lust and so will you be Holy.

Abide in The Word of God

If you abide in My word, you are my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth and truth shall make you free” John 8:31-32

The truth which are the living words of God will set you free when you use it for battle or read it under the guidance of the Spirit. The Lord is awesome in power, strong in might but this can be experienced when we remain in the Word. I remember praying, asking God to teach me how to grab the devil by the throat, how to bring him down when he comes to buffet me. I prayed this because recently each time an attack came I felt weak and suppressed by the bombardment of wicked thoughts. I said “I’m praying but I still feel the effects of the enemy’s attack.” Then the Lord began to work in my heart and out of it came “rounds” to shoot:

Isaiah 54:17 “No weapon formed against you shall prosper”

Psalm 91:8 “Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked”

Psalm 91:7 “A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee”

Psalm 23:4 “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for thou art with me”

Deuteronomy 28:7 “They shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways”

John 16:33 “In the world ye shall have tribulation but be of good cheer I have overcome the world”

I John 5:4 “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith”

Psalm 116:4 “O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul”

Psalm 23:4-5 “Thy Rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over

Psalm 91:10 “Neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling”

John 14:27 “Peace I leave you, my peace I give unto you: not as the w1orld giveth, give I unto you”

These are “rounds” that came out of my heart and as I continue to repeat them in my mind, the tempting force overshadowing me left. There was an effect caused by speaking the word of God. Like what was said before, the Word cuts in half, separating that which is evil from you because no evil spirit can resist the Spirit of God. Don’t cease fire until you know and feel the enemy flee from you.

This was such an awesome experience because afterwards I felt a peace flowing through me and a strength I had not before! Also the next day when I awoke I began to read John 8 and life began to flow through me and even now as I write this. I testify to you reading this that there is a power and a life that flows through you when you begin to use the Word of God against the enemy’s attack. Read the word of God and hide it in your heart that you may be able just like Christ to take it out to fight and war against the devil and prevail.

Before I was tempted I prayed, asking God to deliver me, to strengthen me, and to help me out. Our spirit is willing but our flesh is weak and therefore we must watch and pray that we fall not into temptation (Matthew 26:40) God fills our soul with life when we seek Him in prayer and when we keep His Word in our hearts, letting nothing steal it from us that we should not meditate on it.
